Kenyon College

Dear Student,

It is time to think about registering for classes for next semester. Below you will find instructions to pre-register. To access the information required to register from abroad, first go to: https://login.kenyon.edu. Click on the Registrar's web page. Select OCS info; you will have access to this and other information to help you select courses for next semester. You also will be able to submit your request for course enrollments while on line. Please familiarize yourself with this document first, but be aware that you may find the web site itself updated from time to time.

Dear OCS student: We will soon begin accepting enrollment requests for the Spring of 2008. You may submit your requests as soon as you are prepared to do so; just be certain to read the following directions and follow them carefully.

before April 21

All students submit Course Request Forms.
April 22-25   Registrar's staff enters course requests into the computer.
April 28   Student schedules available on the web.

We will continue our practice of enrolling Seniors first, then Juniors, etc., in four rounds each.

Enrolling for Kenyon Courses from Off Campus

Each OCS student has full responsibility for enrolling in courses to be undertaken at Kenyon after returning from an off-campus study program. Students are provided with various tools and can accomplish their enrollments in different ways.

  1. All OCS students are eligible to request their courses on line.

  2. You may request some enrollments while on your OCS program.

  3. You may request some enrollments upon your return.

  4. ... and then drop/add as needed during the drop/add period at the beginning of next semester.

Request some or all courses while on your OCS program.

  1. For those with access to the web while abroad:

    1. Check out the Schedule of courses available from the Registrar's web site.

    2. Select at 5-7 courses you'd like to undertake and make note of their:

      1. CRN
      2. Dept, Number & Section
      3. Title
      4. Instructor
      5. Credit
      6. Meeting day & time
      7. Permission required?
      8. Note that you should not include Independent Study, applied music, or Senior Honors courses on the form; these require signatures and special forms.

    3. It is essential that you phone, write, or e-mail your advisor to discuss these courses before submitting your Course Request Form because a copy of your course requests will be sent to your advisor.

    4. Phone, write, or e-mail the instructor of any course requiring the instructor's permission and make your case. If permission is granted, it must be in writing or in an e-mail, and you should file it away for safe keeping. (It is suggested that you keep the permission carefully filed away in a Kenyon e-mail folder in case it is needed later, but for the moment, the Registrar's Office will take you at your word that permission has been granted. Notice that you must enter the instructor's e-mail address on the form so that she or he will receive a copy.)

    5. Log in to the Kenyon network at login.kenyon.edu.

    6. Select OCS info from the Registrar's web site.

    7. Select the OCS Course Request Form. Please submit this form only once (additional submissions will only cause confusion); it will be held until the appropriate date for your class to enroll at which time an attempt will be made to enter your request(s) into the computer. If you meet all prerequisites and the course has not been closed, or if you have the instructor's permission, you will be enrolled in your first four 0.50 unit courses plus any associated labs.

      1. Fill the form out completely and save it to your computer.
      2. Be certain to send the form to SMITHKS@kenyon.edu and copy your advisor on the email when sending it in.
      3. Be certain to email the form to the instructors from whom you have received permission.
      4. Be certain to indicate that you have permission for the appropriate course(s).
      5. Double-check your work.
      6. Send the completed form to those listed above by the deadline. If you want to be sure the form went through, please contact Kim Smith (smithks@kenyon.edu).

Request some or all courses upon your return from OCS.

    1. Obtain a Drop/Add form from the Registrar's Office.

    2. Review the course offerings on the web.

    3. Discuss your program and course choices with your advisor.

    4. Obtain your advisor's signature.

    5. Obtain any necessary signatures from instructors.

    6. Deliver your completed form to the Registrar's Office during the first seven days of classes.

    7. ...and then drop/add as needed during the first seven days of classes.
