NOTICE OF INDIVIDUAL STUDENT RESPONSIBILITY
While faculty and staff stand ready to encourage and advise, the final responsibility for complying with College policies and procedures as well as for meeting degree requirements rests with the individual student. Students are provided with personal copies of College policies in the COURSE OF STUDY and various ENROLLMENT INSTRUCTIONS and are held accountable for their content.

APRIL ENROLLMENT PROCEDURES FOR STUDENTS ON CAMPUS
  1. Log on to your Personal Access Page, go to Student Records, and View Holds.

  2. If you have no holds, you may pick up your enrollment materials (Course of Study and Course Request Form) from the Registrar’s Office.

  3. Meet with your faculty advisor to select your courses. You may register for Fall Semester courses in April and will have the opportunity to make adjustments to your Fall Semester schedule in August. BE SURE TO HAVE YOUR ADVISOR SIGN YOUR COURSE REQUEST FORM. THE REGISTRAR’S OFFICE CANNOT ACCEPT IT WITHOUT THE SIGNATURE.

  4. Prioritize your course choices on your Course Request Form; be sure to list the CRN (Course Reference Number) for each course. Keep these things in mind: list the courses with the lowest enrollment limit first and always list permission required courses last. Some courses and sections are always more popular than others and some students may have to settle for a second choice here and there.

Courses with unlimited enrollment are open to any and all, limited enrollment courses are open only to the first (15, 20, 30, etc.) who attempt to enroll, and permission required courses will only be added if the instructor’s signature has been obtained on the Course Request form.

Once you complete your Course Request Form, be sure that you have your advisor sign. Take your form to obtain any necessary signatures from instructors (e.g. permission required, closed courses).

The label on your form states the optimal date by which you should submit your form to the Registrar’s Office.

The Registrar's Office staff will process your requested courses in the order in which you prioritize your courses. Although you may expect to be enrolled in most of the courses you choose, you should not expect to be enrolled in exactly the courses and sections you prefer. REMEMBER to list your most desired courses at the top and your most desired section first in each line; we will attempt additional sections of a course if your first choice is unavailable.

In an attempt to give all students a fair chance of enrolling in the courses they wish, generally, all students in a given class year will be enrolled in their #1 choice before anyone is enrolled in their #2 choice, etc.

The staff members who are building your schedule will not go back and start over if your 3rd or 4th course doesn't fit, they will go on down your list until they find one that does fit. If you end up with a schedule that does not total 2.00 units per semester (or at least 1.75 one semester and 2.25 the other) you are expected to add more courses during the Drop/Add Period at the start of the Fall Semester because you must eventually enroll for 4.00 units for the year.

THINGS TO REMEMBER:

  1. Students will not be enrolled for more than four courses of .50 or .75 units until the first day of classes. Extra courses may be added during the regular Drop/Add period each semester. YOU MAY ENROLL NOW FOR EXTRA COURSES ONLY IF they are labs, applied music, ensembles, or PHSD courses. For courses with companion lab courses your enrollments for the lecture section together with the lab section will only count as one "round" or selection. You may enroll for other extra courses beginning the first day of classes.

  2. If permission of the instructor (PI) is explicitly required in the course description or the Schedule of Courses, you must secure the instructor's signature on the Course Request Form or, later, on a Drop/Add Form to have the course added to your schedule. All students who have such permission will be enrolled. Written permission of the instructor can also override enrollment limits on closed courses. ENROLLMENTS THAT HAVE BEEN ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH FORGERY WILL BE CANCELED.

  3. Prerequisites - Please read the Course of Study carefully for prerequisites for courses. You will not be enrolled in a course for which you do not have the prerequisite unless you obtain the instructor’s signature.

  4. You may not sign up to AUDIT a course until the first day of classes in August.

  5. Year Courses. You will be enrolled for year courses ("Y" in the course number) in their entirety. The "Y" is integral to the course number. Please read the collegiate rules and regulations in the Course of Study.

  6. To add Individual Study or Senior Honors courses, you must use the special individual study or senior honors forms available in the Registrar's Office; they will not be added from your Course Request Form.

CARDINAL RULE #1: You are enrolled ONLY in those courses that are recorded for you in the Office of the Registrar. You will receive credit for no others.

CARDINAL RULE #2: You are enrolled ALL those courses that are recorded for you in the Office of the Registrar. You will receive a grade for each.

CARDINAL RULE #3: Always list MANY courses and MANY alternate sections.

SUGGESTION: Start a file in which to keep a copy of all your course enrollment transactions. Each time you enroll in courses or submit a Drop/Add Form, you will receive a copy or receipt of the transaction. Keep these receipts in your file; they may prove very useful to you if there is ever a question about your enrollments.

The Registrar's Office will send an e-mail alerting all students when they have completed building schedules. Until then, please be patient.

***Common reasons for not getting courses you requested include: class restrictions, lack of permission, lack of prerequisite, course filled, major restrictions, and time conflict.
